Vesrah Suzuki Wins the 2009 WERA Endurance Series Final Race Securing 4 WEAR National Championships

Vesrah Suzuki won the 9th round of the 2009 WERA National Endurance Series at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA. This was Vesrah Suzuki’s 76th win in the WERA National Endurance series and completed a perfect season for the team winning every round of the WERA National Endurance Series this year. This is the 3rd perfect season that the team has had and is the second in a row which has never been done before in the WERA endurance series.

The 4 hour race started with tricky conditions due to the track being wet but drying and several teams ran nose to tail at the beginning. Tray Batey was able to build a small gap during his first stint and Cory West was able to hold this gap during his stint. Tray got back on the bike for the next stint and was able to get the team a 1 lap lead. Cory was able to add another lap to the lead in his second stint and John Jacobi brought the team’s Suzuki GSX-R 1000 to the finish with the 9th victory of the year.

Sunday in the WERA National Challenge Series Vesrah riders secured 4 national championships with Cory West taking the title in Open Superstock Expert and 600 Superstock Expert, Tray Batey taking 750 Superstock Expert and Nick McFadden winning Formula 2 Expert. In the Sportsman Series championships run on Saturday Tray Batey won in B Superstock and Cory West was victorious in C Superstock.

Mark Junge – “Thanks to the riders and crew (Tray, John, Cory, Nancy, Tony, Chuck, Bruce, Scott, Travis, Danny, & Pat) of Vesrah Suzuki for all of their hard work in securing another perfect season in 2009.”

Cory West – “Today’s race was pretty interesting – in the first half we had a wet start and Tray did just what he needed to do. I rode second against a strong competitor and neither of us gained or lost any time on each other. We finally got a little cushion during Tray’s second stint and then John and I did what we could to extend the lead and bring home the win. It was a perfect way to end a perfect season!

Racing the WERA National Endurance Series with the now 8-time Endurance champions was an awesome experience this year. The professionalism of the team and the responsibility I felt I had while riding the # 1 bike made me take my job super serious. It was amazing to see how much team work goes into winning all these races and championships. I thank everyone on the team that helped me and I’d like to thank Tray and John for all the good riding.”

Tray Batey – “The track was a little sketchy the 1st hour because it rained in morning practice and the sun never came out to dry it up. My 1st stint had dry, damp and wet spots all around so we started the race on DOT’s that would finish the 1st stint in case the track went full dry. We took turn setting the pace during the first half hour with several competitors with all of us trying to stay out of trouble and no one getting away. As the track dried, we were finally able to pull out a little gap and Cory took over for the 2nd stint. It was a fun race and really great to win the last one of the year even though we had already clinched the championship @ Barber. It’s been a privilege to be a part of this team over the years and I hope I have been an asset to Mark and Nancy. The team did an awesome job this weekend and all year as well. It’s been an honor to be part of this program!”

John Jacobi – “It was great to wrap up this season with a win – that’s 2 perfect seasons in a row – impressive! Thanks to all the crew and Mark and Nancy. Thanks to Tray and Cory for great rides. See ya in 2010.
