September 21 - The GP Experience, A Student's view
Dear Marnie, Kevin and the rest of the Schwantz Team,
Having arrived back in the UK last Tuesday (2nd Sept), i have had a little time to reflect on my recent visit to the US, and felt compelled to write to you, thanking you all for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
From the moment we all met (KSS Staff and Students) at the Barber Museum on the Monday evening before the school, the dye appeared to be cast for all the events that followed during the week. Instantly, you guys made me feel incredibly welcome and any nerves i had built up over the previous weeks, disappeared in an instant. The balance you guys have created is absolutely right and rather just feeling like a paying customer, you created this unique family type atmosphere, which was warm and extremely friendly.
I only wish the school had gone on for longer, Lee's (Acree) classroom work was very relaxed and intuitive and his presentation skills excellent, keeping our attention at all times. The instructors were great, offering the benefit of their vast knowledge to us all and improving our skills as a result. I am looking forward to putting the new techniques learned into practice both on the track and some of the safer skills into practice on the street. Kevin's input was invaluable, pooling his vast racing knowledge as and when required and being so approachable at all times, fabulous. Being one of the privileged few to witness his GP 500 being ridden around Barber before the Indy demo, was a great experience.
On to Indy then, and more of the same from you guys, specifically the BBQ hosted by Jim and Shirley and being on the grid with Kevin before his demo laps. I very much felt part of the Schwantz 'team' during the Indy weekend for this reason and for the access Marnie, you managed to obtain for us, to normally unobtainable areas of the track. It was quite something and an experience i will never forget.
Thanks again to you all, i had a really wonderful time and look forward to signing up again for KSS next year.
Best wishes to you all.
Nick M – U.K.
