1)
Is Kevin at all the schools?
Yes,
Kevin participates in the classroom lecture with his classroom
Instructors in the morning and rides with both
groups out on track in the afternoon of each class day.
2)
My primary goal is to become a better street rider but I’ve
never been on the racetrack, let alone raced. I’m concerned
as to whether I fit?
Absolutely you’ll fit in. We typically have a bit over half the class
in our Street group, which will put you in the classroom and on the track with
students of similar riding abilities and aspirations. While we do teach in
the controlled environment of the racetrack, KSSS is a performance riding school,
not a race school. Well over half our students are non-racers and we have a
group tailored specifically for them.
3)
I am a new rider, can I come to your school?
We suggest at least one year riding experience prior to attending to be
best prepared for KSSS’s level of instruction.
4)
I do not have a current motorcycle license, but I have
been street riding for years. Can I attend your school?
Yes, as long as you already have the basic skills of riding a motorcycle.
But, we strongly recommend that you get the proper motorcycle riding endorsement
before riding on the street.
5)
What if I am a foreign rider?
No problem, as long as you have the basic skills of riding a motorcycle
and a year’s worth of riding experience.
6)
Can I sign up for one day or must I sign up for both of
the 2-Day school days?
You
must sign up for both days of a 2-Day school. Only half
of the complete curriculum is taught each day, both days
need to be taken together.
7)
Is the second day a continuation of the first day where
skills would be built upon?
Yes. The second day curriculum assumes that the student has been through
the first day and builds upon that foundation of knowledge.
8)
Do both days follow the same schedule?
The
schedule is different from day one to day two. Day one
begins at 8:00 am with an introductory lecture covering
the school rules and such. The first track session typically
begins about 9:30 am and continues in 20-minute
rotations throughout the day, except for the one-hour lunch break. Day two
begins at 7:30 am with a track walk with Kevin and crew and continues with
the 20-minute track/lecture rotations that pick up where
day one ends.
9)
Which bikes are available for rent at KSSS?
Suzuki GSX-R600s and SV650s, which are supplied new to KSSS each year.
10)
I don’t own a Suzuki bike, can I bring my other brand
of bike to use at the school?
Unfortunately,
no. Being the premier Suzuki school worldwide, the Kevin
Schwantz Suzuki School is a Suzuki-only experience. We do, however, have
a fleet of track-prepped, Michelin-shod Suzukis (SV650s
and GSX-R600s) for students use.
11)
When attending the school do riders alternate between the
SV650 and GSXR600?
While we don’t require it, we’d prefer that every student ride
both the SV650 and the GSX-R600 because much can be learned from riding each
one. Typically a student wants to ride either one or the other and sticks with
that type of bike all day.
12)
Can I specify either an SV650 or GSX-R600 to ride?
We
don’t reserve bikes. We have SV650s and GSX-R600s
for students to use and not all
34 students are on the track at the same time. As the class
is split into two groups there should be nearly twice
as many bikes as riders for any given session.
13)
Are you selling any of your KSSS class bikes?
At the end of the school year the bikes are sold through the local Suzuki
dealerships. Pricing is based on mileage, condition and other factors.
14)
Under Technical Requirements for Bringing My Own Bike it
says “Taping headlights, taillights and turn signals”.
Is removing the bulbs adequate?
Actually, simply disconnecting the headlight and taillights is fine, though
we do require the turn signals to be either taped over, or preferably, removed
for track safety reasons.
15)
Under Technical Requirements for Bringing My Own Bike it
says “New or near-new (90% tread depth or better)
tires are required.” How can I determine if my tires
have 90% tread depth?
Basically, we require new tires or tires with less than 200 street miles
on them. While it might not be enforced with a vernier caliper, the 90% tread
depth rule simply puts a number on the fact that we want at least near-new
tires. We do this for the student’s safety because badly worn tires at
the end of a day or two of track time can be a safety issue.
16)
Are bikes included in the price of the World Champion’s
3-Day package?
Yes
17)
What size Dainese leathers would I wear?
Your leather size equates to your US jacket sizing, i.e. 40-42-44-44 etc.
plus 10.
18)
What are considered riding boots?
Motorcycle-specific
boots designed with added protection, particularly in the
outer toe, ankle and calf areas. The Dainese boots we rent
are an excellent example of a riding boot.
19)
What is the cost for my spouse/friend/guest to join me
for lunch and/or dinner?
Lunch,
$10.00 (2-Day or 3-Day) Dinner, $10.00 (2-Day or 3-Day)
20)
What is your rain policy?
KSSS
is held rain or shine. However, if the officials of Road
Atlanta or Kevin Schwantz feel the weather and amount of
rain would cause a dangerous environment, credits will
be given depending upon the amount of time already spent
on the track and in the classroom.
21)
What is your refund policy?
There are no refunds given for cancellations. Cancellations made within 30
days of your scheduled school date will be given a 50% credit towards a future
school and the remaining 50% will be assessed as a cancellation fee. Cancellations
made within seven days of your scheduled school date will not receive any credit.
