Kevin
Schwantz, Suzuki’s #1 supporter
The
Team Suzuki MotoGP team is set for their official 2005 launch
this weekend at the Catalunya circuit in Spain. Kevin Schwantz,
the popular 1993 World Champion, will show his support to the
Japanese manufacturer by taking part in the event, confident
about the chances of the team.
“I feel like I’m involved with Suzuki in their MotoGP
effort, in my heart, but I don’t get to come to all the
races, I’m only coming to a few Grand Prix, only watching
and helping in anyway I can,” commented ‘Revin’ Kevin’.
“Kenny Roberts Jr and John Hopkins are doing well so far
this year, and it seems that Suzuki made some big improvements
on their Grand Prix bike. Hopefully, we will see Suzuki back
at the front.”
For the American, the new infrastructure could prove instrumental
in the team’s progress this year. “The management
with Paul Denning is an important change. From the Japanese standpoint,
the crew standpoint, it’s good to see someone who is very
interested, very ‘hands on’, keeping track of what’s
going on.”
“I think management in the past had gotten to where things
just kind of run, and now the team is getting more ambition,
a lot of motivation to go out more and do better because the
team manager is involved in everything, working in the garage.
I think Paul will do a great job this year.”
The former World Champion also commented on the comeback of MotoGP
in the United States, as Laguna Seca will host a round of the
Championship for the first time since 1994.
“The last GP they had in the States was in ‘94, I was there but I
didn’t race. It’s a huge excitement - all my friends and everybody
in America involved in motorcycling are excited about MotoGP and Laguna Seca.
I think it’s going to be a great race, they are making some big changes
to the track for safe racing.”
“Myself and Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, Doug Chandler and maybe Randy Mamola
will be racing there on Super karts, hoping to put on a good show and having
fun!”. |
