Suzuki Debuts Commemorative
GSX-R Book
- Suzuki GSX-R A Legacy of Performance explores the
history of the iconic sportbike -
BREA, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2005) – American
Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) announced that the company
is debuting a commemorative book paying homage to the
GSX-R. Titled “Suzuki GSX-R A Legacy of Performance,” the
stylish, hardcover book was penned by celebrated motorcycle
journalist Marc Cook and examines the history of the
GSX-R line from its inception in 1985 through today.
Featuring 192 glossy pages worth of GSX-R facts and
background information, the impressive tome includes
passages such as this entry from chapter two:
- As expected, the race bike ambitions of the GSX-R750
were played out for real. Remembers Yoshimura’s
Don Sakakura, “Back then, Superbike racing was
based off a production bike. Suzuki would supply us
with production motorcycles in the crate… With
the GSX-R, we got the aluminum chassis and the engine
performance; from that point it made our job that much
easier… It worked really well as a production
bike for the track. Most of what we did was to make
changes to make the rider comfortable rather than wholesale
changes in the engine and chassis. It was just a very
balanced package that worked well everywhere… It
was a huge advantage.”
Additionally, “Suzuki GSX-R A Legacy of Performance” includes
hundreds of color photographs and conceptual drawings,
inside information from the Suzuki factory in Japan,
interviews with GSX-R designers, a foreword from former
Suzuki World Grand Prix Champion Kevin Schwantz and much
more.
